General Questions:

Where are you located?

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada! My wife and I moved here in 2022 after spending an awesome decade in Portland, Oregon and a fun few years in Los Angeles, CA back in the day. I could talk all day about what makes Vegas so awesome, but the short story for this Englishman is the sunshine. I also love the silent desert sunrises, the world class thai food, and the late-night summer pool dips. (All filed under IYKYK...)

Do you travel? If so, where and when?

Hell yes! (Especially when the Vegas heat gets a wee bit fiesty in the summer!) A lot of our Family lives in Newport Beach, CA so we head out there fairly often. I offer Family Sessions throughout the year in the Orange County / Los Angeles areas as well as Portland, OR. (email or keep an eye on my IG for dates) I also travel for Weddings & Elopements all over the USA - maybe you can help me tick off some more cities and states from my bucket list! Let me know what you have planned and I'll put a custom quote together for you.

How do I book you?

You just click one of the many (thousands of) contact buttons on this website or head to the contact page and send me a message! Oh, and my phone number is at the bottom of every page. We’ll jump on the phone / facetime / zoom for a chat so I can find out all about you and what you need out of your photographs!

What if we're super awkward in front of the camera?

Well, you're not the first and you won't be the last! A lot of my clients claim to be awkward in front of a camera, but now you've seen their pictures you know this is not true... I'll be there to help you have a great time and like I explain all over this website - you just have to be yourselves!

Do you edit / photoshop our photographs?

Well, it depends on what you mean by photoshop... I do edit every photograph to make it look 'how it felt' at the time we took it together. (Behind the scenes boring info: your photos actually come out of my fancy-pants expensive camera as massive editable RAW files that can initially look flat and duller than the pictures on your old iphone.) So, I hand edit each one to create my own custom film-like 'look' which you've seen all over my website. I'll also generally retouch minor blemishes / distractions and check / soften skin tones for Family sessions and your main Wedding Day portraits, Basically, you're gonna love your pictures and you'll look amazing. Drastic photoshop retouching like teeth braces, slimming, face re-shaping isn't included - but if there's an innocent bystander lurking in the background of your otherwise gorgeous picture - they're totally getting zapped!

Can I post my photos on social media?

Yes please! It's always awesome when client share their pictures online with friends and family! I just ask that if you do share them, try to be sure to give me a photo credit (not just a hidden tag) and please don’t edit or crop them - and definitely don't whack a crazy instagram filter on top... My eyes! Honestly, I truly value every connection I've made** through word of mouth.** And that includes you sharing your pictures. As a small business / artist it's so so helpful when your friends and family see my work, so thankyou!

Why do Vegas photographers charge for permits for certain locations?

Because as much as we love this city and state, they do love to charge us to shoot your sessions in some of the most gorgeous places. Don't worry, I know plenty of awesome locations that don't need a permit but some of the most famous ones do. Unfortunately we have to add this fee on - but if you have your eye on a certain special spot, it's probably worth it!

What gear do you use?

(Non-geeks can skip this question...) My camera is a Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR - I use one body for Family sessions and two of them for Weddings, It's an absolutely cracking camera and I love it. My absolutel favourite lenses are my gorgeous Sigma 35mm f/1.4 ART prime and my solid but stunning Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L. The bulk of pictures you'll see across this website are taken with just those two lenses. For weddings, I'll sprinkle in a few more - a Tamron 15-35mm f/2.8, a Canon 85mm f1.4L prime and a Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L. I honestly love chatting about nerdy camera stuff with my clients, so feel free to ask me stuff during our session if you dabble with photography yourself!

Do you shoot with a flash?

No. Well, only for very specific situations... If you've looked around this website at all, you will have seen that I adore natural light! It works perfectly for my photography almost all of the time and as well as looking stunning, it helps to keep you feeling relaxed and undistracted without a strobe going off in your eyes every few seconds. Most of the time, my flash just chills in my bag or at home and takes a nap. But... it loves a good dancefloor. If you and your guests start throwing some shapes at your wedding it'll be there to capture the magic! and create some of those vibrant and dreamy (possibly drunk) dancing shots you know you want!

Do you have insurance?

Oh yes! All my fancy Cameras and Lenses are insured and I also have liability insurance. If your venue needs your Photographer to provide an Insurance Cerificate, I've got you covered.

Wedding Questions:

Will you hold our date for us?

Only for a day or two after we've met and chatted. I do get multiple requests for the same date and generally whoever puts down their $500 deposit first and signs their contact gets the date. But, as with everything - let's chat!

How far in advance should we book our Wedding?

I definitely recommend booking your wedding about 1 year in advance if possible, especially for summer and fall weekend dates. They can tend to book up quickly...

Can our dog be in the Wedding?

Dogs are the greatest. That's really a question for you and your venue, with the main concern always being your pup's safety... I've shot some memorable weddings with doggos involved and I'd love to meet yours! It just takes some planning to take care of them on the day.

Can we have a Second Photographer for our Wedding?

Yes you can! And a lot of the time it's my lovely wife, Krystal. (She's amazing, and knows my style inside out...) If it's not her, it'll be another awesome local photographer who I trust and you'll love. I offer coverage with or without a second shooter and smaller weddings with more mindful budgets work out just as awesome with me documenting alone. I do reccomend two of us for larger weddings, bigger venues or just for more chances to capture all the love and feelings of your day!

Do you do group photos?

Absolutely! They sometimes get a bit of a bad rap, and everyone remembers that one wedding where the boring, posed group shots seemed to take forever while everyone desperately tried to hunt down that one uncle who was at the bar... It doesn't have to be that way! You (or your planner) just have to be organised - work out the groups ahead of time and we'll get those pictures taken in a flash! In my opinion they really are massively important. You never know, that might be the only time (or the last time) that particular group of incredible people are together in one place... No need to be morbid, just mindful. You are getting these group shots! They're posed, sure. But I can squeeze a ton of life into your group portraits, it's people feeling feelings, remember? That's literally what I do.

Can you take picture of every shoe / flower / decoration?

Ah... the shoe shots. It's like this... I just feel like while I'm artfully balancing and arranging inanimate objects, there is more than likely something magical happening with real human beings behind me! Don't worry, you'll get plenty of pictures documenting the non-human aspects of what makes your wedding day so special. But I'd be lying if I said my focus wasn't on the people and the feelings.

Do you provide albums?

Yes! As pretty as your pictures will look on your computer (or inevitably your phone) screen, they will look even more incredible printed professionally! The albums I create for you are beautiful and pretty darn fancy. They're real keepsakes with thick layflat board pages and stunning colour and detail. They are included in certain packages, and there's various options to customise them or add more pages.

How many photos do we get?

As many as I need to tell the story of your day! I will never overwhlem you with pictures but you'll get enough to fully relive your Wedding all over again whenever you want. I want you to be able to remember how each chapter of the day unfolded and felt to you and your guests. I'll typically provide you with somewhere between 700 to 1,200 hand edited photographs. It obviously depends on the specifics of your wedding and whether or not you chose to have a second shooter, but rest easy - you'll have so many moments documented to cherish forever!

How long will it take to get our photographs?

You’ll get a sneak preview of 10-20 pictures a few days after your wedding to keep you going while I get to work on the many thousands that I took throughout the day! You will (it's in the contract!) get your finished photographs within 12 weeks at the very latest, although I'll always try my best for it to be sooner.

Can I print the photos myself?

Yes! Every Wedding package includes all of the fully edited, high resolution digital photographs along with a print release, which means if you really want to order prints yourself, you can! Yay! But... I do always warn clients that all printers are not the same. What makes professional labs so great (aside from the quality of the ink and materials) is that they print photographs that are exactly colour matched to my fancy calibrated monitor and editing presets. This isn't just another geeky photographer thing, you can totally notice it in your final product. A lot of cheaper places will print the images that you love with the colours and contrast too dark / saturated / pale and the whole thing can end up just looking 'off'. Maybe, just maybe Grandma won't see the difference, but I like to think my wicked smart clients will. I spend ages editing your photographs to make them look just the way they're supposed to be, and bad printing totally reverses all that work, which kinda sucks for me and more importantly, for you! If in doubt, you can always order prints directly from your online gallery if you want to make sure they come out perfectly. It's linked directly to my trusted professional lab, and you can choose from a variety of sizes, finishes and other wall art options. They get shipped directly to your home so you don't have to go into Walgreens looking for the 16 year old assistant to help you create your suspiciously curly prints... Win win!

Our Wedding is outdoors, what happens if the weather is bad?

In Vegas there's always the chance of our ridiculous wind. The Portland rain is always lurking, even in the summer. Everywhere has the potential for some kind of weather that's not what you pictured for your wedding day. I'm here to let you know it'll be okay. Between me and your planner, the wedding will be okay and the photos will definitely be okay. I capture what it felt like on your wedding day in beautiful tangible detail, so whether you're laughing at your bridesmaid's hair blowing all over her face or sprinting through raindrops with your new hubby under cute umbrellas, you'll cherish the pictures forever. I promise. The light is actually even better when it's cloudy, and who doesn't love a scenic spot with moody vibes? Just go with it and keep your attention on what's most important... You're getting married! Woot!

What happens if you get ill before my wedding?

It's a fair question! I’m one of those annoying people who (let me knock on all the wood here) really doesn't get sick much at all - Only something crazy like getting hit by lightning or eaten by a shark is going to keep me from cheerfully shooting your wedding as planned! Seriously though, I'm vaccinated and boosted against Covid and always take extra care not to do anything stupid before weddings! We will also have a contract that takes care of all the eventualities. Like most photographers, if for some crazy reason I am incapacitated I will do all I can to find you an awesome replacement – there is a great network of photographers I can contact. I will then pay them to shoot your wedding in my place. If I am unable to do that, you get all of your money back, including your deposit.

Is our Engagement Session really free?

Yep. It's included when you book me to shoot your Wedding! That's a $749 value that's worth every penny (er... cent). If you book me for just an Engagement Session and then hire me for your wedding later, I'll give you $500 back as a discount on your wedding package. As you'll see elsewhere on this website, Engagement photos don’t have to be cheesy and awkward - I actually think they're freaking amazing! We get to hang out and get to know each other properly, you get comfortable with me and my camera ahead of the wedding, and you get a ton of amazing pictures (at least 60) of you and your love to enjoy forever and use for your Wedding announcements! The pictures don't have to be you holding hands awkwardly in front of a brick wall, they can celebrate whatever makes you so freaking awesome that you want to marry each other… Let's chat about what and where your perfect photos would include!

What to wear for an Engagement Session?

As always, my advice is make sure you look like you in the photographs! It can be slightly more polished you, relaxed you, or fancy pants you but it better be you! Nobody needs photos of the one time they wore that one thing. That's what your Wedding Day is for, hehe... Generally though, here's what can often work. Try and avoid large logos or wording as it's all you'll see in the pictures. Patterns are good, but maybe make sure your partner is wearing more of a solid color to balance it. Layers are always the camera's friend, it breaks things up and adds some variety and interest to the photos, especially anything with a cool texture. Statement accesories like belts, hats, scarves and jewelery can also pop, just stay comfortable and stay you. If you can't decide, maybe bring 2 outfits and change half way through!

Family Questions:

When do you have availability? Can you fit us in last minute?

As with most Family photographers, Fall is my busiest time. Generally, the longer in advance you can book a session, the better. Weekends obviously get booked up fastest, so being available on a Weekday late afternoon / evening in the warmer months can help snag a spot. It's always worth checking in to see if I have any last minute availability, as I won't always post online if I've had a late cancellation or a schedule change.

Why do you have 4 different Family Session Types?

Actually it's 5 if you count Newborns, hehe... I know, I know, it's more than you usually see photographers offer. Why? Because I'm trying something different here, I want to provide Families with more ways to preserve precious memories. A 'regular' photoshoot can show plenty, but there's so many more moments in family life. The Adventures, the Celebrations, the Everyday Moments. So I offer distict tailored sessions designed to capture the magic of each one.

Can we bring our dog with us to the Session?

Dogs are the greatest, so many of my favourite Family Sessions over the years have had one involved! I am always up for adding your pup to the mix, they are part of the family after all! Just be aware that depending on how distracting yours is, they may well end up distacting you... You're the best judge of if they'll let you take pictures in peace or whether every second photo will be you shouting and chasing them! Certain places may not allow dogs and obviously their safety comes first in the summer heat. Let's get an idea of what your Session looks like and see what we can work out as a ruff draft!

Do you provide photobooks?

Yes! I want you to have a physical presentation of your photographs, and not just digital files soon to be lost in your computer or hidden in a drawer. You get a Photobook with every Each of my 5 Family Sessions I offer include a stunning 20 side Photobook! As pretty as your pictures will look on your computer (or inevitably your phone) screen, they will look even more incredible printed professionally!

How many photos do we get?

Each Family Session Type is different, ranging from (at least) 30 pictures included with 'A Moment In Time' to (at least) 250 photographs with "A Day In The Life'. I'll never overwhelm you, but you'll have plenty of variety in the pictures you recieve. The way I capture moments and feelings means there's a range of real and candid shots for you to treasure. Check out each Family Session page to see more details.

How long will it take to get our photographs?

Usually, your Family Session pictures will be ready for you to see in about 3 weeks, and I'll send you a sneak preview pic or 2 in the days following our shoot to keep you going while I get to work on the rest! You'll get your digital files on a gorgeous custom printed wooden thumb drive, and in an online gallery. I'll also share my design of your Book / Album which you can approve or tinker with, and the finished product will be with you 3 weeks later.

Can I print the photos myself?

Yes! Every Family Session Type includes all of the fully edited, high resolution digital photographs along with a print release, which means if you really want to order prints yourself, you can! Yay! But... I do always warn clients that all printers are not the same. What happens if the weather is bad?

In Vegas there's always the chance of our ridiculous wind. The Portland rain is always lurking, even in the summer. Everywhere has the potential for some kind of weather that's not what you pictured for your photographs. Most of my Family Sessions take place outdoors, and the surroundings and weather are a big part of the photographs. But, it's mainly about the people in the photos, and the personalities and love that makes you all unique. So if the weather isn't too crazy, you'll still get pictures that you'll love that showcase your family. If it's just anough wind or drizzle to create some giggles and family bonding then I'm perfectly happy to go ahead, but it's up to you at the end of the day. The light is actually even better when it's cloudy, and who doesn't love a scenic spot with moody vibes? If it's a torrential downpour or a crazy desert windstorm... Nobody wants photos of that. We can schedule a new date anytime I have availablity within 3 months.

What to wear for a Family Session?

As always, my advice is make sure you look like you in the photographs! It can be slightly more polished you, relaxed you, or fancy pants you but it better be you! Nobody needs photos of the one time they wore that one thing. Generally though, here's what can often work. Firstly, unless you have some kind of weird family uniforms, No matchy matchy. Matching clothes or colors for everyone makes it harder for personalities to shine through. Try to coordinate colours instead of matching. You can mix patterns and solids among your family members to creeate a balance, and neutral colours often work better than bright crazy neons... Try and avoid large logos or wording as it's all you'll see in the pictures. Layers are always the camera's friend, it breaks things up and adds some variety and interest to the photos, especially anything with a cool texture. Statement accesories like belts, hats, scarves and jewelery can also pop, they can often change the look of an entire outift with the minimum of effort. If in doubt, just stay comfortable and stay you!

I'm pregnant! When's the best time to showcase my belly in our Family Session?

First up, congrats!!! I usually recommend aiming for 30-35 weeks so we get the best combination of baby bump showing, and you still being comfortable enough to move around and enjoy taking photographs. And, like every other session - make sure you're wearing something you feel relaxed in!

I'm pregnant! When's the best time to schedule a Newborn Session?

Congratulations!! I'm so excited for you all, and can't wait to meet your new best buddy when they choose to join us!! I usually recommend the pictures being taken between 7-14 days after they say hi, but it's not an exact science! Later than that means the baby will proabably be more alert and less sleepy, but I've still got some incredibly special eyes-open pictures later! I don't really have a time limit for newborn pictures. It's a good idea to set aside 2-3+ hours for the shoot and the time will absolutely whizz by. There's no pressure for the little one to 'perform', and there will be plenty of opportunities for feeding, changing and rest. You're definitely not 'on camera' the whole time, it's more like picking and choosing little moments here and there.
